Tata Power Green Energy Ltd (TPGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, received a Letter of Award from Tata Power Mumbai Distribution on July 13, 2020 to develop a 225-mw hybrid renewable project. TPGEL won this project in a bid recently finalized by Tata Power Mumbai Distribution.

Electricity generated from this plant will be supplied to Tata Power Mumbai Distribution under a 25-year power purchase agreement, effective from the scheduled commercial operation date. The project is required to be commissioned within 18 months from the date of execution of the PPA.

According to information available with T&D India, the “hybrid” project will include solar panels and wind turbines. Besides, Tata Power is free to set up the plant at any location—be it within Maharashtra (the home state of Tata Power Mumbai Distribution) or outside it. The project location has not been finalized yet, it is further learnt.

The plant is expected to generate about 700 million kwh of energy per year and is expected to offset approximately 700 million kg of CO2, annually.

Tata Power’s renewable capacity will increase to 3,782 mw, out of which 2,637 mw is operational and 1,145 mw is under implementation. Capacity under implementation includes 225 mw won by TPGEL under this letter of award.
