Oberoi Group ties up with EESL to cut carbon footprint


NEW DELHI: The Oberoi Group has tied up with Energy Efficiency Private Limited (EESL), a JV of Union power ministry’s four PSUs, to implement initiatives including clean energy systems across its properties.

EESL will collaborate with all Oberoi Group Hotels to evaluate opportunities for saving energy and lowering emissions, thereby reducing the hospitality major’s overall carbon footprint.

Tailor-made energy efficiency initiatives for each property will be executed, under EESL’s “building energy efficiency program” (BEEP).

The Oberoi Group MD and CEO Vikram Oberoi said: “Sustainability is at the core of our ethos at The Oberoi Group. It has always been our endeavour to identify and implement innovative, ecological solutions across our hotels and businesses. Several of our hotels are powered by renewable sources and are supplemented with energy efficient measures which have progressively reduced our carbon footprint. Our partnership with EESL further strengthens our commitment towards the planet and our vision of providing sustainable luxury experiences to our guests.”

EESL will provide technical support and extend its procurement advantage through its partners across the energy sector.

The potential energy efficiency measures will include lighting, electric motors and pumps, AC, ventilation systems, indoor air quality systems and electric vehicles along with charging infrastructure.

A JV of NTPC, Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation and POWERGRID, EESL was set up under the Union power ministry to facilitate implementation of energy efficiency projects.

EESL is a super energy service company that aims to unlock energy efficiency market in India, estimated to at Rs 74,000 crore that can potentially result in energy savings of up to 20% of current consumption.

The 1934-founded Oberoi Group at present operates 33 hotels, two Nile cruisers and a motor vessel in the backwaters of Kerala.
