  • RPO shall be inclusive of purchases of electricity from renewable energy sources already being made.

Ways to Meet RPO

Purchase of renewable energy / purchase certificates

 

Certificates

  • Obligation to purchase solar and non-solar energy can be fulfilled by purchase of solar and non-solar certificates respectively.
  • Certificates purchased by obligated entities shall be deposited with the commission as per procedures issued by the central agency.

Effect of Default

  • In case of non-fulfillment of RPO by obligated entities, the obligated entity may be asked by the commission to deposit into a separate fund created and maintained by the obligated entity.
  • The amount of deposit shall be determined by the Commission on the basis of shortfall in RPO and forbearance price decided by the central commission.
  • The fund shall be utilized as may be directed by the commission for purchase of certificates.
