Oil India’s First Rooftop Solar Plant Commissioned In Assam

Oil India Limited’s (OIL) first grid-connected solar PV rooftop power plant in their north-Eastern field of operation was commissioned earlier this week. The 34 kW rooftop solar system was commissioned and formally inaugurated at the Field Head Quarters of OIL, Duliajan.

The solar power plant was inaugurated by Rupshikha Saikia Borah, Director (Finance), OIL in presence of RCE, OIL, Pranjit Deka, Resident Chief Executive, OIL and other dignitaries. The inauguration ceremony of this solar plant commemorates the month-long programme SAKSHAM – 2019 as per the directive of MoPNG.

A total of 107 polycrystalline PV modules are used in the plant. And the solar array is supported by two inverters of 20 kW and 15 kW capacity.

The inverters have in-built protection against various electrical faults. The plant also has been fitted with necessary hardware for real-time monitoring of the electrical and ambient/weather parameters such as voltage, current, unit generated cumulative energy, ambient and solar cell temperature.

These data can be accessed either directly on the display system of the inverters or on computers or Android mobile handsets through cloud technology (GPRS network). Solar PV power plants are a popular alternative energy source for industry and domestic usage with factors like zero cost of generation, environment-friendly operation, easy installation, and low maintenance cost.

The PSU energy firm inaugurated a 40 kW solar power plant, to provide electricity to an eco-tourism project in Dibrugarh district, more than two years ago.

Recently, NLC India (NLCIL), state-owned mining and power generating company, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to develop 2,640 MW of lignite-based thermal power projects and 1,000 MW of solar energy projects in the state.
